COUNCILLOR Karl Wilson came over all schoolmasterly when he caught council officers chatting during his scrutiny meeting.

After spotting them conversing while Councillor Terry Thurogood was asking a question about the draft list of Cleethorpes heritage assets, the panel chairman turned to the main culprit and asked: “Are you going to answer the question, Jake?”

The embarrassed officer sheepishly confessed that he had not heard as he had been talking.

“I know you were. That’s why I asked you,” replied the chairman sternly.

But his air of authority unraveled when he realised the officer in question was in fact Damien Jaines-White, the economic development manager.

“Jake Newby is the person that would normally take the lead on such matters,” explained Mr Jaines-White.

Councillor Wilson apologised for his faux pas.
