Council pledges to paint 'grubby' lampposts after lengthy campaign
THE future is bright for ornamental lamp posts in Grimsby's St James' Square.
After a campaign to highlight the grubby state of the lamp posts by Grimsby In Bloom supporters, council leaders have agreed to spruce them up.

The lamppost clean-up campaign reaps reward thanks to Grimsby in Bloom members, from left, Elaine Atkinson, Jacquie Brown, Carol Harrison and chairman Ernie Brown.
The chairman of the town's In Bloom committee, Ernie Brown. was dismayed by the number of official stickers which had been posted on the black posts – advising people not to litter the square.
Over time, the stickers have peeled off, leaving the posts looking untidy and in need of a new coat of paint.
An initial request to North East Lincolnshire Council to repaint the lamp posts was rejected, said Mr Brown.
But NELC leader Councillor Andrew De Freitas has guaranteed the work will be carried out within the next fortnight.

“is this a joke?anti-litter signs warning people of a £50 fine if they are caught littering are themselves a piece of litter stuck to a lamppost and is now in need of repair, you really just cannot make it up with this council.give the litter wardens a paintbrush and take their notepads and Hitler moustaches of em.”

“What a waste of money give the people that are on community service a brush and get them to do it, rather than employing and having to pay some one £6 an hour to paint a lamp post. ITS A JOKE”
