CLEETHORPES Academy is one step closer after North East Lincolnshire Council (NELC) sent a letter to the Government outlining its plans.

It was revealed at a meeting of NELC's cabinet, during which Cllr Daniel Khan, principal of the Grimsby Institute, declared a possible interest in the new development, and left the debate.

As reported, the academy would be overseen by a coalition between Edge Hill University and Tollbar Business and Enterprise College in an effort to revitalise The Lindsey School – which is in special measures.

At a meeting of the council's cabinet it was announced the academy should be set up by 2010, and the site rebuilt by 2014.
