RUSS Mowberry (March 14) talks about our “profligate local councillors (some of whom are reputed to earn more than the PM in some parts of the country)”.

Well as far as NELC is concerned, the basic allowance for a councillor is less than £7,500, while those on the Cabinet earn around £21,000. This is only a third of an MPs salary, let alone the Prime Minister’s.

As for “car parking enforcement fascists”, while no one would want them to be over-zealous, the fact is they are only there to deal with those who break the law.

And every day I see vehicles parking in the wrong direction to traffic at night, parking on double yellow lines and parking on pavements. As such, they often impede the law-abiding motorists we hear so much about.

“Alexander Wallace, Chris Shaw, Leanor Pidgen, Susan Pickett, Geoff Lowis, Ian Lindley, Peggy Elliot, Andrew De Freitas, and Michael Burnett are the only councillors who received over £15,000 last year. Only 3 of those got £21k or more (Wallace, Shaw, and Burnett).

Personally I don't think it's excessive. If they are putting the time and effort in then they are earning the money. In fact I find more obsecene that the leader of the council earns around a fifth of the chief executive earns.

If we think that these people don't earn their money - get rid of them in the local elections! It's a shame we can't do the same for the high earning senior management within the authority.”

“I think you will find that the original article was referring to the Chief Exec of NELC who has historically earned more than the PM......also there are umpteen Council officers with salaries way in excess of £30000! an awful lot of them earn this by constantly attending meetings which consist of sitting around and sagely nodding their heads at hopefully the right moments!”

“Can you believe this.... John Colebrook passes away at 75, one of the better ward Councillors!

Conservatives offer a replacement who s 81 years old! Would you believe it?

Lib Dems offer a candidate who must be over 70!

And Labour offer a candidate who is....... wait for it.......19!

You are kidding me! At that age the Cons and Lib Dems candidate is TOO OLD to represent the Ward. In it for the money.

As for the 19 year old BOY...who can he represent?

UKIP is the ONLY way in New Waltham and Humberston.

Steve Harness gained 1000 votes in 2012, have confidence in him.”

“It looks like every time someone comens on our councillors the red rating button is pressed. somebody seem's to have told others to do this as its just started in the lastr week.
Get a life and do as you want......not what your told.”

“Considering the National average wage is £26k - I earn £14,500 - then they should consider themselves lucky. Councillors are public servants but act as a countenance of conscious . They react to what the public - or what they perceive the public - wish. Most of the time they talk what THEY want and not what about what their constituents wish .
Sometimes I think that they live in Ivory Towers and not in the real world.”

“£21,000 for what they do, is more than enough. None of them earn it I dont think.”
