Cromwell Road leisure centre site not in the Outer Hebrides!
ALTHOUGH I agree that it would be less costly to update Scartho Baths than build a new pool and indeed I signed the petition to keep it, I am getting fed-up with people who live in the vicinity of that pool talking about the Cromwell Road site as though it were the Outer Hebrides!
The last two letters I have read have been written by Scartho Road residents, one of whom referred to the proposed site as “inaccessible” – is he not aware that once he has left his road there are just two main thoroughfares to travel to get him to the new site and by car it would take approximately ten minutes?

Of course, some may have to get two buses to get there, like thousands of others have had to do for many years in order to get to Scartho Baths.
The proposed site already has a number of leisure facilities so the logic of its choice is also obvious.

“Mrs DE , I suppose you are referring to me , I am well aware of the travelling requisits regarding the proposed siting at Cromwell Road . Our Save The Baths Group did a comprehensive survey of bus routes for all wards , also a demographic survey ,presented to the council ,proving our case re the "location" , supported by over 9,500 petitioners. This is all about the future users , who will come as now from all around NEL , young and old ! The "baths" has the Barret's playing field behind it ,protected for the people of Grimsby by covenant , which once again was linked to ou r campaign . A proposal for a community leisure facility was designed , making for an attraction for different sports at the centre of population ! Nough said , we do intend to keep fighting for what is right , in hope that labour will listen to their electorate ?!”

“This comment made my day: 'I have to go there anyway to see the big productions at the auditorium'! Thank you.
The difference between the two sites is that there are more than 10 bus routes within walking distance of Scartho Baths. Which bus do you catch from Laceby to the Willows? Scartho? The transport links are incomparable.
One thing that amazes me is that in 1975,when the population of Grimsby was smaller, and there wasn't a problem with obesity (particularly amongst children), we could sustain 2 pools. Now, when we should be basking in the legacy of the Olympics, tonnes of kids are a bit fat at least, we can only sustain 1 small pool on the edge of town.
Doesn't make sense to me.”

“The 16 bus stop directly outside the Cromwell Road Leisure Centre every fifteen minutes. The 45 stops down the road every half hour. There's a huge car park to park your car and every taxi driver knows how to get there. To use the location as an obstacle is borderline stupidity.
I live on the East Marsh but I'd be happy to travel to Cromwell Road to go swimming, I have to go there anyway to see the big productions at the Auditorium so what difference does it make?”
