GRIMSBY-area junior side Discoveries DSV under-nines came through a dramatic penalty shoot-out to claim their first ever piece of silverware.

The young side were crowned champions of the annual Park Tigers tournament in Scunthorpe, after beating the hosts in the final.

The team, managed by Lee Shakespeare, battled against the searing heat to scrape progress through their group on goal difference, having only lost one game.

Kai Marshall and Bailey Wright both scored in the semi-final knock out Bottesford who had previously beaten the Grimsby side earlier in the day.

Tournament hosts Park Tigers awaited DSV in what was to be a tight final.

Neither team could make the breakthrough in normal time and the score still remained 0-0 after extra time, meaning that the tie would be decided by the lottery of a penalty shoot-out.

Noah Fleming and Kai Marshall both kept a cool head to slot their spot-kicks home.

The hero of the day was goalkeeper James Short, who saved four of the opponents' attempts to take the trophy.

Manager Lee Shakespeare said: "We had two teams in the tournament and both teams shone with a top-drawer passing game.

"After the tournament various managers asked where we had come from and commented on how well we play, which was nice to hear."
