“The fireball described by your article was most probably, space debris or a meteorite burning on re-entry to earths upper atmosphere. This sighting was also reported widely across the North of England last night around 9:00pm. The viewing conditions were also very clear due to wind strength.
It was described mostly of green and blue in appearance and the colours given would be due to gas releases under high temperatures. Most low earth objects are monitored for tracking purposes and the majority are burned fully on re-entry. An example of speed concerning these objects is around 17,000 - 24,000mph. This gives an appreciation of friction caused by impacting air turbulence. Nothing really to worry about as this happens quite often although not seen due to different re-entry locations.”
