Dock Tower charity fundraisers
SOME went up, others came down, but they all raised money on behalf of the Rotary Club of Great Grimsby.
The organisation hosted a weekend of sky-scraping fundraising at Grimsby's Dock Tower – a climb on Saturday, and an abseil on Sunday.

TOP TO BOTTOM: Sharon gets ready to go, has her final safety checks and then gingerly climbs over the edge under the watchful eye of Matt Allport.

OVER THE EDGE: Ellis Thompson gets ready for her descent.

About 80 people tackled the 450 steps on Saturday to raise money for St Andrew's Hospice and the Grimsby branch of the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MND), as well as other local charities.

Sharon Baker begins her descent.
And on Sunday, Grimsby Telegraph Health Reporter Sharon Baker faced her fears and abseiled the 309 feet from top to bottom in aid of the Bottoms Up Appeal.
Find out how Sharon and some of the other daredevils got on, and see more pictures, in today's Grimsby Telegraph.

“I say this as the same thing happened to me and this was for my children who had been killed (2 of them) and on being turned away from teh dock tower due to their practices regarding this and maintained dignity and simply approached a different take on this and did another task in which i made plenty of money. Im sure the telegraph just understood the decision and the practices it has in place and for all the hard work and dedication that goes into the various fund raising activities at the dock tower the telegraph perhaps just felt they did not deserve condeming, there are plenty of other exercises i.e sky diving, walks etc to raise money if thats your priority”

“Agree, Kerry to personally relate the decision of the telegraph to the staff personally about their families is really quite shameful”

“Indeed, Kerry, and I had my opinion which I, too, am entitled to as much as you. If the cap fits!”

“Agree with Pat, whilst everyone has every sympathy with you over your son's operation and we wish him and you well, you subsequent comments were absolutely out of order. Shame.”

“Kerry, that's a bit harsh isn't it. All those who took part, including a friend of mine, knew that they were raising it for the Rotary charities, which are local, although my friend did get special permission to do it for a different local charity. No one is saying that the Sheffield Children's Hospital doesn't do a good job, and you could always organise something yourself locally for locals to support it. But to use emotional blackmail about Rotary and the Telegraph staff's children and grandchildren needing a children's hospital is, quite frankly, disgusting and if you had any of my support before, you have just lost it now. Disgusting.”

“i too was going to do this abseil with my son for sheffields childrens hospital but was refused, which i think they do an absolutely fantastic job, my son had an operation earlier this year at the childrens hospital and to show how gratefull we were we decided we would raise money for them, as we werent allowed to do the abseil i had to let my son and hospital down, even the telegraph didnt want to know my story, i think it is absolutely disgracefull, i guess there must be members of the rotary club working for the telegraph for them not want my story.... for the rotary club and the telegraph, lets see how your attitudes change if one of your children or grandchildren need the childrens hospital”
