JACK Hopper, of Haycroft Street, Grimsby, got in touch after we published this photograph of members of the Grimsby Bowling and West End Club.

Jack said: "I was delighted to see the photograph. I am second from the right.

"Herbert Joys, who used to organise the Biggest Ever parades, is next left and my father, Thomas Hopper, is next to him.

"My brother-in-law, Bill Black, is third from right on the back row. Both are now deceased.

"Apart from Peter Needham, rear left, and me, I wonder if there is anyone left. Matron Craggs is in a nursing home.

"What fond memories this brought back of the club from 48 years ago."

Jack also sent us one of his photographs to share with readers. Our thanks to him.

COSTUME DRAMA: Members of Grimsby Bowling and West End Club, with Father Christmas and a “reindeer”, with the acting matron, Sister J Craggs, when they visited Grimsby General Hospital on Christmas Day. The reindeer, a former panto horse, was “filled” by brothers Ray and Peter Collins. Jack Hopper is second from right, third from right is Herbert Joys and fourth from right is Thomas Hopper. On the back row, third from right, is Bill Black, and Peter Needham is on the far left. The photograph was published in December 1962.

FESTIVE PICK-ME-UP: Members of the Grimsby Bowling and West End Club delivering gifts to the old Grimsby General Hospital. The year is not known. Those we can identify are Reg Allbones, left, wearing top hat; Tom Hopper, behind the trolley, wearing glasses; Jack Hopper, stood to the left of Santa Claus, wearing glasses; Herbert Joys, stood to the right of Santa, wearing glasses; and Bill Black, behind Herbert.

“My grandad Tom Gibson is in both photos, which form a larger display in the local hospital. He is second from the left near the back of the first photograph with the glasses on and on the left of the second photo behind the gent in the suit and the nurse. He passed away in the early seventies. My dad looks so much like him.”
