A 52-YEAR-OLD was found drunk in his car in a ditch with the lights on and the engine running after a night out.

Clifford James Perrin, of Louth Road, Holton-le-Clay, admitted driving with excess alcohol when he appeared before Skegness Magistrates' Court.

  1. Court

The court was told Perrin was found by a taxi driver and his passenger at 2.50am on Sunday, August 12, after Perrin had driven his Nissan Navara car into a ditch near his home.

Edward Johnson, prosecuting, said the lights were on, the engine running and the wheels spinning.

He said when the taxi driver and passenger spoke to him, he replied in "incoherent babble".

Police attended and after a positive breath test, he was arrested.

He was found to have 94 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 mcg.

Mitigating, Sarah Middleton said the offence was totally out of character as Perrin was not a heavy drinker.

She said he did not drink heavily and had only drunk a weak lager.

She said he had no recollection of leaving the pub or driving his car and that usually when he went out, his wife would pick him up.

Miss Middleton said that Perrin, who owns his own company, would now have to employ someone to do the driving that he normally did.

The magistrates imposed a two-year driving ban and offered the drink-drivers' rehabilitation course, which would reduce the disqualification period by six months.

Perrin was also fined £600 and ordered to pay £85 court costs and a £15 victims' surcharge.
