Drivers should not moan when they get a parking ticket in Grimsby!
Do we moan about lack of parking, but then think nothing of parking where we shouldn't or longer than we are allowed?
In a recent letter in Viewpoint, a reader bemoaned a parking ticket, blaming the business of the car park for the delay in leaving within the time allowed.
Here a reader responds - add your comment below, and read today's Viewpoint spread in your Grimsby Telegraph.
HOW dare Anne Arnold complain about being fined for parking in the B&M car park for longer (or not as she says) than the statutory two hours just because it took her a while to find the parking space in the first place?

The reason it took her a while to park is because it is full of people like her who are using it as a free car park to go into town rather than just using it while shopping in the store (yes, I know you used the store, but for two hours or more?).
Perhaps, Anne, if you had parked in Freshney Place car park while visiting town you would find yourself paying far less than the £95 you are quoting in your letter. In fact, £93 less!
Maybe you will have learned your lesson (and so, hopefully, will anyone else reading the letter) and stop using it as a free car park.
Lindsay Glaves, address supplied.

“just because someone has a car, DOES NOT MEAN THEY HAVE THE RIGHT TO PARK ANYWHERE .”

“Many locals are missing the point that the governement is cutting council grants to the bone whilst refusing to allow them to charge higher rates. Do they want schools, road mending, social services, libraries, Sure Start, leisure facilities etc cut or cancelled so they can park where they like when they like? As a resident of a street near to town which is completely parked up every day with the cars of selfish people who live outside town, I'm bound to lack sympathy. But my main point is: we have to start thinking about proper priorities for our council spending!”

“Lindsay Glaves-another clueless individual who doesn't understand private parking.
Its irrelevant how long she stayed in the car park or if she left to go else were.
As Jules 22 states its an unenforceable invoice
And by the way,it can't be called a fine-thats illegal. Its called a "parking charge notice".
Ignore the scammers.”

“@TheWrangler - Certainly have read the original post. In fact I have it right here in front of me now before using it to light my wood burner! The lady states and I quote "The parking authority would not accept my explanation for being in the car park just more than ten minutes more and then asked me for receipts from BM stores. I paid in cash and did not keep receipts, but where does it state that you have to be a patron of the store to use the car park?"
Nowhere in her letter does she CLEARLY state that she had been elsewhere - merely questions as to where does it state one has to be a patron to park in said car park!
Deduce what you will TheWrangler at that - but I really think a trip to SpecSavers is in order for you to enable you to read things CLEARLY although I'm not sure they will be able to help you in what appears to be UNDERSTANDING CLEARLY what you read!!”

“....Erm have you read the original post? - Clearly not!
In that original post, the lady clearly stated that she had been elsewhere as well as B&M!
Order up, Humbe Pie, with side order of foot in mouth!”

“I agree with Jules_22 but can you honestly say Lindsay you have never done similar yourself?? You probably can't unless you don't drive...”

“Who are you Lindsay Glaves to say Anne Arnold didn't spend all that time in the store? And how can you say she, like all the others that park there, just use it for a free car park to go into Town? Do you monitor the car park and the comings and goings of people using it? These stores place themselves on the outskirts of the town centers and if they want the public to shop in them, then they should provide a car park - without time constraints! Who knows how long it can take someone to look around a large store? I can, and often do, spend far longer than the parking allows in Sainsburys! I like to look at the clothes, books etc., then wander around the food aisles getting my shopping, and then maybe have a coffee and cake in their cafe. If they want my custom then they have to be prepared for me to take as long as I want in their stores! This business of time constraints is pathetic. Even motorway service stations operate them now. Some poor chap was given a fine for overstaying the time limit because he had a sleep in his car, and then went and had a meal and drinks before continuing on his journey. Overhead gantries on all motorways state Do Not Drive Tired. So if you cannot go into a service station on a motorway and use them more than a couple of hours as well as spending money on their overinflated prices, what's the answer? As Anne Arnold was advised by many readers on the previous story - she does not need to pay the parking charge. She as not committed a crime and it's highly unlikely the parking company will take the time and effort to pursue her in a Court of Law. All she needs to do is ignore the several threatening letters she will receive from the parking company. Put them in the bin where they belong! And to Lindsay Glaves - get off your high horse and stop accusing all shoppers of using these as free car parks to shop anywhere else but the said store!”
