He menaced the teenager, demanded his phone and grabbed his collar – while holding a bottle of vodka at the same time.

The boy was really scared and thought he would be hit. He handed over his phone.

The youngster alerted the police and Heaver was later arrested in Grimsby after his description matched that given by the teenager.

Richard Butters, mitigating, said Heaver was "very, very drunk" and did not know what he was doing after drinking "huge amounts of alcohol".

The robbery was "disgraceful" and totally out of character, said Mr Butters.

"No actual violence or injury was caused. He simply can't believe what he did.

"It was an opportunist, drunken escapade."

Recorder Taryn Turner told Heaver: "This was an extremely vulnerable victim. It must have been terrifying for that young man."

Heaver was given a two-year suspended prison sentence, a two-year supervision order, including alcohol counselling, and must pay £500 compensation.

I have been "very, very drunk" many times, but never felt the need to grab teenagers & rob them

Well done the Grimsby Telegraph having done a good job in the name & shame department, as yet again the courts seem unable to hand out what I would call any kind of a deterrent”

“A full bottle of vodka, would that be 70cl? On top of that 24 cans of cider. Standard 440ml can? No way. Not in one go, that's for sure.”
