However, today it emerged that William would prefer their first born to be a girl.
During her hour-and-a-half hour visit to the regiment's Aldershot barracks she said she is “excited” about the baby, which is due in July, and is prepared for the sleepless nights.
Guardsman Lee Wheeler, 29, who told the Duchess he missed his 22-month-old son whilst on duty, said he chatted to her about the baby.
"I asked her 'do you know if it's a girl or boy', and she said 'not yet'. She said 'I'd like to have a boy and William would like a girl'. That's always the way,” he recalled.
"I asked her if she had any names yet and she said no. I said I suppose you've got to stick to traditional names."

“As per previously ROYAL PROTOCOL WILL NOT ALLOW THE FUTURE QUEEN OF ENGLAND TO ANNOUNCE BEFORE IT'S BIRTH THE SEX OF ANOTHER FUTURE KING/QUEEN OF ENGLAND. Like a child at Christmas, you'll just have to wait and see!
Although it's the GY Telewag scratching for news again, to emphasis that it's needed as a daily paper and not by downsized into a weekly edition like in Lincoln or Scunthorpe!”
