MY dining partner and I fancied a meal out – but we didn’t want to break the bank.

So we chose The Cricketers, in Littlefield Lane, Grimsby, for its two-for-one deal on main meals.

We have eaten there before and found the staff friendly and food hot and plentiful – this trip was no different.

After a quick glance at the menu our minds were made up. I went for the Classic Combo Deluxe (£9.95), which includes garlic and herb chicken breast strips, duck spring rolls, onion rings, barbecue chicken wings, breaded mushrooms, potato wedges, tortilla chips and cheesy garlic bread, along with a pot of Wild Cannon hot sauce.

My partner chose the Barnyard Burger (£10.45), which comes with a 4oz beef burger, a large chicken breast, Dingley Dell pork and caramelised red onion burger and a fried egg, as well as crispy onions and a mayonnaise dip.

At the time of our visit, the coke pumps were broken and the bar was out of ice, so we instead opted for bottles of soft drinks.

The meal came to a purse and wallet-friendly £14.35, thanks to the two-for-one offer for the main meals.

The food came fairly quickly and was hot when it arrived.

When the combo was placed in front of me though, I thought I had been given the wrong dish because it was very large; twice the size of my partner’s plate!

So there was certainly plenty to eat. The food was all cooked well, and there was a nice variety, with the duck, chicken and the garlic bread.

The Barnyard Burger was also plentiful. My dining partner said it was really tasty and was surprised at how much there was to eat.

I would definitely recommend The Cricketers. It’s great for families, with the Fuzzy Ed play area for youngsters as well as large and small groups in the main bar.
