Editor's Comment: Hospitals must get it right
IS THE NHS a victim of its own success?
People are living longer due to new medical practices and modern treatments result in more hospital beds being taken.
All this costs money – money that is in short supply for all public sector organisations.
But all of the above would be very cold comfort if you had a loved one suffering at the hands of a hospital service that is simply unable to cope.

To say that the hospitals in our area have an inability to cope is unfair and unjust – weekly we get letters into viewpoint thanking staff for the magnificent work that has been done, and rightly so.
However, there are issues and obvious pressure points, which result in some patients not receiving the care they should. Many such patients will be vulnerable and reliant on the staff, whose job it is to care for them.
Therefore, there should be no let up in the drive to “get it right”!
