Editor's Comment: Tragedy is a warning to all
A TRAGEDY that could have happened outside any school gates on any given day of the working week.
This week our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Daniel Eastwood – people shattered by a tragic accident.
While investigators still have to do their job, there is no doubt that this happened at school dropping off time outside a very popular and busy establishment.
Fortunately, this is the first tragedy of this kind – however, such an incident has been warned about at school gates right across our area.

Even the smallest primary schools have major issues when it comes to the school rush.
Cars line pathways, blocking essential views as children and school buses weave their way in and out.
What can be done?
There can be yellow lines and warnings, and police can mount patrols. But essentially everyone needs to take so much more care and be mindful of the tragedy that can so easily happen.

“Benditlike:
The 'fortunately' here seems very appropriate.
...Unless you think it preferable that there had been previous tragedies?”

“Road safety is EVERYONE'S EQUAL RESPONSIBILITY TO OTHER'S THEN THEMSELVES!
TollBar: you'll see many cars parked along this stretch of road at the start/end of the School day, yet many are parked next to a solid white kerbside line - like the solid lines in the middle of a road, you DON'T CROSS OR PARK near them!
At any School we now have 'School safety Zones', where it is signed no parking/stopping during School hours, BUT the late arrives or those in the BIG 4x4's often park here!”

“I don't think the phrase in this story quote:
"fortunately, this is the first tragedy of this kind..."
is really appropiate.
I'm surprised the word 'fortunately' has been used out of context.”
