IT must be hoped that Grimsby residents living in the Broadway area of town will soon get some relief from speeding traffic.

They must be sick and tired of motorists paying absolutely no attention to the speed restrictions in place along there.

It must also be a great worry – especially for parents.

As children get a little older, parents want to let them have some independence, to walk to school with their friends perhaps.

However, in areas such as Broadway such a move would come with a massive worry as the accident rate along there is high.

Drivers should have more sense – but it appears they don’t and so the council must spend more money forcing them to slow down.

This move will be welcomed – but it is a shame that drivers cannot make the decision themselves!

“Broadway has always been a rat run, ever since it was built. Everyone knows that it is the main artery for Laceby Acres. So why has it suddenly jumped into the headlines as being deadly? For one thing most of the speeding is done outside school hours by clever devils on a short cut or a show off. If you want to stop that you have to enforce the law but that costs money.

For another thing the problem has been made worse by the changes on the Laceby dual carriageway that now see traffic crawling in a never ending stream to and from Morrisons Roundabout. Naturally enough, drivers are going to try and avoid the traffic crawling to and round Bradley Crossroads if they can, so more of them are using Broadway. This was completely predictable but ignored by the planners until a crisis emerges and they come up with yet more road changes to deal with it. It looks as though they are determined to make the town into one gigantic gridlock.

Humps and chicanes do no good in deterring the avid speeder, they just annoy the law abiding. Sticking a roundabout in will help but proper law enforcement would help more.”

“I don't see the point of asking the question. This issue has been done to death in other threads time after time after time. The authorities will simply do as they please.”

“Exactly, smoker. Let me guess, the council will reduce the speed limit further??? How about enforcing the current speed limit?

Again this is just the council propaganda machine in motion. The Council see a problem, come up with a ridiculous solution, and the Grimsby Telegraph say well done Council.

It's a scary situation when the local rag depends so heavily on advertising revenue from the council. The paper dare not question a single thing they do. I'd be happier if the paper went to a weekly edition with lower costs if it meant it could anger it's advertisers.”

“Erm, don't the police have speed cameras so that they can deal with that problem?”
