GRIMSBY Town needs a new home.

The majority of professional football clubs have re-invented themselves in the last two decades.

And a major part of such re-invention has been to transform their homes into modern, clean environments that welcome families and banish the hooligan.

But the search for a suitable site and the funding required has alluded Town.

Where others have succeeded, this club has missed out – failing to secure either the land or the finance.

The latest plan for land off Weelsby Avenue is proving unpopular and that is understandable.

But what is more difficult to understand is that this has not been sorted yet. The club needs a new home and it is in everyone’s best interests to find it one.

Surely there is a solution and surely it should have been found before now.

“The local authority dont give two hoots about a new stadium, instead they spend 10K on plans to regenerate freeman street and this has led to proposals of making it one way and putting some tables outside the market (10k!!!!!!!!). Our council wastes money on lining pockets of cohorts and back handers, actually building a stadium which could galvanise the local community (for every 1 moaner there are 10 people enthusing over the idea). Look at Oxford, they are the shining example, yes they built in better times, yes we are in times of huge austerity, but they speculated and soon after got out of the league. We have a well supported club in a run down community (though apathetic like stated previously on here), politicians and goody goody do-gooders are always telling us how we must encourage growth and spending these days to get out of recession, yes I know things are wholly different here to other parts of the country, but isn't it time we did something positive in this town, for this town for once? I'm not interested in allotment owners or other objectors opinions, people will always resist change, but without change we would still be clubbing our food to death and dying from polio and the pox, the Local Authority, councillors, community groups and the people must find a way of coming together and find a way to move this Town, and our football club forward, it's 2012, times have changed, this town has not! “They built that monstrosity of the findus stand in 1980, it is now a tatty rusting mess. No one was building stadiums then until after the other disaster begnning with H in 1985 yes Heysel. Are we allowed to mention why English clubs were banned from Europe for 5 years.
Scunthorpe got lucky with a prime site for development.
Since then opportunities have been missed like Victoria Retail Park, the Tesco site at Cleethorpes to name but two, which were being developed when Town were relatively succesful.
We need at least division 1 football before we waste money on a staium.”

“If the government were to embark on a spending spree it would find something far more worthwhile than a Confererence football team that can only attract around 2% of the local population through its gates We have a plethora of supermarkets and noting the physical state of a lot of the younger generation we are well subscribed for sports facilities The regurgatation of this old chestnut is meant to portray the GET as a champion of local populist causes .”

“I suspect the editor is not really tuned in to these economic times if she cannot understand why the new stadium hasn't yet happened. For the stadium to be developed (and yes, it is needed), a commercial tie-in is required to provide the funding. Too many critics suppose it won't happen because Grimsby town cannot afford it. The reality is that Grimsby Town would not be paying for the development! They may well lease part of the site but the development itself will be funded by the installation of a commercial operation such as a retail park, supermarket or similar. If the local authority gets it act together, this could also include community facilities for the benefit of the whole area. All of that is positive, in my view, but will only happen when those commercial organisations believe that the time is right economically and is the reason why so many sites in North East Lincolnshire have remained undeveloped for so long. It takes a very brave investor to sink millions into development projects when we continue to bump along the bottom of an economic recession pit.

The only alternative would be massive government spending to kick-start the economy. Can you really see that happening with the current ConDem government in power?”

“This is probably the most apathetic area in the country. It appears people dont want to improve and progress. Too many seem happy to object. They arent sure why but it just makes em feel better.
A new stadium, pool, general sporting facilities might just develop a feel of well being. We may even develop one of our own for an olympic gold medal or an England International. It will bring much needed new jobs for local people.
Negativity and apathy needs throwing out to be replaced by energy, enthusiasm and desire to make this area something to be proud of rather than a downtrodden dump were everyone only ever looks for negatives”

“confused, every one knows we need a new stadium. what is the discussion!! the difficulty is we play in the conference, and until we get promotion to the football league, Grimsby can not afford a new stadium. The question if one needs to be asked is, why if every one knows we needs a new stadium, why aren't the local community supporting a new stadium, because if the support was there Grimsby would have moved to great coates years ago!!”

“Blundell park has seen better days, and in my opinion the local councils should get together and buy it off the football club, and build a new swimming pool and leisure complex on it.
This would replace scartho baths, and be in a perect location for everyone to access, and on the man bus route etc.
As a matter of urgency, they should donate some land to the football club, and help build a community stadium for Grimsby town f.c. and the people of grimsby and cleethorpes to be proud off.
As regards funding the project the proceeds of blundell park sale, and there must be grants available? stadium sponser...conoco? etc.
The town of grimsby needs the fooball club,as there is a real feel good factor in the town when the clubs doing well, and due to our location the football club helps put us on the map.
A succesfull football club and a feel good factor in the town can only help bring futue investment, which in turn bings more jobs and money in to grimsby.”
