Ella Henderson teams up with Disney to promote online safety message
"BEING a good online friend should come as naturally as being a good friend in the real world."
That is the message from X Factor's Ella Henderson, who is heading a three-year Disney campaign to educate children and parents about staying safe online.
The 17-year-old – who recently signed to Simon Cowell's Syco, a subsidiary of Sony – is starring in a series of films being broadcast on the Disney Channel, ahead of Safer Internet Day next Tuesday.
It follows the Grimsby Telegraph's own Stay Safe Online campaign, launched after suggestive pictures and videos of local girls appeared online.
Ella was chosen to take part in the campaign after Disney executives learned that she had been targeted by cyberbullies.
She said: "The Disney Channel will be showing some short films – including one that I've made, which I'm very proud of.
"We all spend lots of time on the internet, playing games, chatting to friends and sharing photos, but it's important to remember to treat everyone with respect and stay safe.
"Connecting with respect means being a good online friend and behaving just as we would in the real world.
"It means treating people how you'd like to be treated yourself, checking before you share pictures, videos or stories with anyone else and telling someone if you think your friend is in trouble, or is being bullied online."
