AN ENTREPRENEUR who endured a nightmare mauling in the Dragon's Den is looking forward to a fairytale 2011, thanks to Disney's next blockbuster.

Shaun Pulfrey's Tangle Teezer brush has gone on to win awards in the hairdressing industry and now the fortuitously titled Tangled – which opens in the UK later this month – will help elevate the product even further.

The modern day animated tale of Rapunzel is a "golden opportunity" for the celebrity colourist, who has just passed the £1 million turnover milestone with his business, and is already eyeing up the £2 million mark.

"We have a three month promotional tie-in which, for us, is amazing," said Mr Pulfrey.

"We were approached some time back now, when the film was all hush-hush, but we have the hair brush that has got everyone talking and the marketing people at Disney saw it and it is a good profile match."

It was back in 2007 when the former Grimsby hairdresser appeared on the BBC show.

But his hopes of an £80,000 boost from the fiery investors led to a "get knotted" response, with the innovation labelled "hair-brained".

Now the comedy musical about a princess with 70ft of magical golden hair – the ultimate client for Mr Pulfrey – could have the Dragons mourning the one that got away.

The Tangled entwining came about when Disney uploaded their Tangled teaser trailers on video sharing website YouTube. Searches brought up the Tangle Teezer brush, and the promotional campaign was established with links formed by those working for the film giant.

A top-seller in its sector in high street store Boots, the enchantment of the picture will now be captured with eye catching on-box promotional stickers for Tangle Teezer Original, as well as the 2010 launched Compact Styler and the child-friendly Magic Flowerpot.

Inside the box will be giveaway offers including hair makeovers at leading salons, glitter and gloss girlie fun at Tantrum's in Hamleys and a VIP screening of Disney's Tangled for 30 long hair-loving movie friends.

Mr Pulfrey said: "As far as the business is concerned we have been growing year on year, month by month. We have brought out new products and a lot of money has also gone back in.

"We have just had December's figures and we had a £1.6 million turnover. Last year we did £840,000.

"Should sales continue until our end of year in March, we should hit £2.2 million. That is reason for celebration as it is all debt-free and from a single investment of £90,000.

"I got that back a long time ago and now the business moves on all under its own steam."

For Disney, Tangled is the 50th animated release and it was a nice fit for those behind the tie-in.

Chris O'Neill, of JJP, Disney's promotion and brand partnership agency, said: "We are just going live with everything now. We approached Tangle Teezer to work on the release to give it profile from the film, not only creatively, but given that they have excellent children's products too, it works.

"The film is sure to be a huge animation for Disney this year. It is doing extremely well in the US and internationally."
