"HANDS off our park!"

That is the message being sent to North East Lincolnshire Council from concerned kids and parents in Wybers Wood.

As reported, the council had ruled the estate's only park, in Gloria Way, is to be closed down following claims from some neighbouring residents that they have endured 20 years of antisocial behaviour.

Gloria Way residents have complained youngsters using the park have harassed residents, damaged nearby properties, verbally and physically abused residents, and drunk alcohol.

However, others living nearby are so concerned no provision has been made for youngsters who regularly play in the park that dad-of-two Chris Lawrance, of Albatross Drive, has set up a new Facebook group and petition calling for the move to be halted.

Chris, whose sons Addison, 4, and Sean, 2, cried when they heard the park was to close, has joined forces with former Freshney ward councillor Peter Bellini and current ward councillor Dave Boylen (Lib Dem), to kick off the campaign.

The move comes as NELC chiefs have pledged to embark on a review of parks and open spaces provision in the borough – including looking into whether or not a new park should be created in Wybers Wood.

The residents who asked for help are being portrayed badly in all of this, once again i reiterate that never did anyone ask for the park to be closed but relocated. This decision was made over a long and drawn out legal process whereas all of the houses on Aylesby park and most of the wybers(Including notices in the shops) were invited to several public meetings to discuss the future of the park, if you binned it or chose to ignore it then who have you got to blame? Again this decision did not come from the residents but from the council.I would far sooner they announced the opening of a new park first and closed this one at the same time but it was not to be.
ok so let me ask you who were the small minded people that got onto the council in the first place that set in motion the wheels for the council closing parks

The closure of the park will be a great shame however instead of finger pointing and accusing people of lying you really ought to channel your energies into helping Mr Lawrance find a more suitable location.
but i bet your laughing now arent you!!!

is it too much for children to be able to play in parks with out being victimised for other peoples problems?
    it would appear so”

“So yet again the NIMBYS appear to have won
I wonder how many of these MOANING MINNIES actually had a childhood or is it that they believe in the old victorian ways of children should be seen and not heard
So now you close down parks where kids goto play what else will you try to get schools closed down next”

“If there's talk about relocating a park, how about using some of that mainly unused Freshney Parkway land. Then any facility will be away from houses, close to the road, but also walking distance from Wybers and Laceby Acres for many more children to enjoy.

If this could happen, could we have apparatus for younger children as well please? Capes Rec is now no good for my little boy now the new equipment has gone in. Simple swings and a slide somewhere would be nice...”

“I think the council should build another park before getting rid of this one.

    gloria way resident!!, wybers wood

"People should keep there noses out of wybers affairs"

If you're on Gloria Way, you are not a Wybers Wood resident, you are an Aylesby Park resident.”

“it must be hard if its been ongoing for that many years, but wy not be proactive about it? i think everyone understands that councils and police etc can drag their feet a bit with incidents like this, so have those affected by it considered settingup a neighbourhood watch group? if that many people are the victims. then there should be enough to do patrols with at least 2 people. Its a shame if the next generation are punished for something our teens are doing. and before you say im not a resident there, i am aware that this is not an isolated case. sadly it happens in many places. the place might be different, but the way it affects residents is the same.”

“"All the claims about anti social behaviour on this park have been grossly exaggerated.

So you have proof of this do you? The police are wrong, the CCTV evidence is wrong, the prosecutions are wrong? What you actually know is nothing at all.

Let me ask you a question, if your family were being harrassed would you ignore it or would you fight tooth and nail to protect your family?

All that was asked from the council during DOCUMENTED meetings over the last 13 years was that the park be relocated to a more suitable location,i sincerely hope that a new location is found however i do not take kindly to people "sticking there nose in" when they have no idea over the facts of this matter.

Until you have been a victim of these thugs you have NO right to comment on things you have no idea about.

The closure of the park will be a great shame however instead of finger pointing and accusing people of lying you really ought to channel your energies into helping Mr Lawrance find a more suitable location.

I understand that feeling is high on this matter but spare a thought to how you would feel if you had to live with this day in, day out.

I understand that certain people in the immediate area may not have been affected by this but others have, there are many houses in the area that neither face on to the park nor back on to it.

Again to people who say that "you should not have moved there" unfortunately society has changed, the anti has been upped and we asked for help before someone got hurt.

Is that too much to ask?

    For some it seems so.........”

“No there is not anywhere else for the kids to play. The people who are campaigning to keep the park open don't want it to stay indefinitely. They just don't want it to close until another one is built. Hopefully a bigger and better one. All the claims about anti social behaviour on this park have been grossly exaggerated.”
