A POIGNANT service dedicated to the memory of Ellie Leadbeater has been held at Grimsby's St Mary's School.

Pupils gathered to remember Ellie, 15, and see the results of fundraising efforts made in her name presented to her family.

As reported, the popular teenager died in her sleep in February at her home in Legsby Avenue, Grimsby.

Pathologists have said analysis of her death has so far proved inconclusive.

At the service, headteacher Richard Mellows described how the school had spent £1,250 raised in memory of Ellie.

Some of the money went to helping deprived people living in developing countries. Through the Catholic overseas development agency Cafod they got school starter packs, 11 footballs, chickens, music packages, piglets, water for a family, and a bicycle for a qualified nurse to visit villages.

St Mary's School teachers and students paid tribute to Ellie Leadbeater at a memorial event.

Some of Ellie's artwork was also handed to mum Janis, 45, dad Tim, 49, and aunt Amanda.

They were also given a specially made wooden bowl – the last of its kind given to notable people who have been a part of the school.

The rest of the money was going towards paying for one youngster to go on a pilgrimage to Lourdes through the HCPT pilgrimages trust.

Headteacher Richard Mellows said: "There have been different fundraising events to raise the money – from loose change collections to specific events like non-uniform days.

"Pupils still gave money at the prom – which would have been Eleanor's this year."

Find out what family and pupils had to say about Ellie's legacy in today's Grimsby Telegraph.
