WOMEN are now more aware of the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer thanks to a fashion show and quiz.

The event was held by the Care Plus Group's Cancer Collaborative at Lucarly's in Humberston.

Collaborative manager Julie Grimmer said the idea was to get as many women as possible in one place so awareness of the signs and symptoms to look out for could be made to a mass audience.

More than 100 people attended the event with the majority being women.

Julie said: "We had a fantastic response to the event and we raised awareness through the use of a quiz. It really opened people's eyes.

"Feedback from women was positive and some didn't even realise what to look out for when it came to ovarian cancer.

"We have held similar events like this in the past to raise awareness of other cancers.

"They do seem to be very successful and a fashion show is a great way to target our female audience in one place."

Throughout this month, an NHS pilot campaign has run under the banner Be Clear On Cancer to help women understand the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer.

The following three symptoms, if they occur on most days, may suggest ovarian cancer:

Persistent pelvic and abdominal pain

Increased abdominal size or persistent bloating (not bloating that comes and goes)

Difficulty eating, and feeling full quickly

If ovarian cancer is diagnosed at an early stage, the outcome is good.
