There are four categories overall – 0-9 months, 10-18 months, 19-36 months and 3-5 years – with a winner from each one taking home £150 and a print of their photo.

And the overall winner of the contest will walk away with £550 and a trophy.

Jemma Christie, 29, of Grimsby, has entered her eight-month-old daughter, Tallulah Briggs, into the competition for the first time.

She said: "This is my first child and I am just really proud and want to show her off.

"The last pictures we had taken of her was at ten days old so it will be nice to have some new ones to keep.

"I think the competition is a good idea and I will just have to keep my fingers crossed."

The first 500 entrants are also receiving free entry into Pleasure Island, in Cleethorpes (excluding May 27).

Professional photographs are being taken outside BHS, in Freshney Place, until Saturday and will appear in a special Grimsby Telegraph supplement on Thursday, April 18.

Mark Coulwill, 41, of Immingham, has entered his son Ethan Coulwill, 18 months, into the contest.

He said: "I just love Ethan to pieces and I have a rotating picture frame of him on my desk at work.

"I am not really a competitive person and every parent thinks their child is the best.

"It will be nice to just get some professional pictures taken of him."

The top 80 entrants of Baby And Toddler Of The Year 2013 will be decided by a public vote, and a panel of judges will then decide the winner in each category and the overall competition winner.

Tammy Brierley, 30, of Grimsby, is looking forward to seeing her daughter Molly-May Waters, ten months, in the paper.

She said: "I think this competition is great and I will be rallying my friends and family around to vote for Molly.

"This is the first time I have entered the competition as friends have suggested that Molly will be good for it."

Donna Brady, commercial photographer for Baby And Toddler Of The Year, said: "There has been a lot of interest again this year and we expect entrants to rise rapidly over this last week.

"We also have a Facebook page and are asking people to like it to be in with a chance of winning some children's toys.

"The 0-9 months category is the most popular so far but I would encourage anyone with a child under the age of 5 to get involved."
