A Finn way to end a classic series
THE adventures of a young boy trying to escape the clutches of his drunk and abusive father is the final book in the Grimsby Telegraph's Children's Classic series.
As reported, the popular series has seen readers collecting 25 hardback classics which have captured the imaginations of our area's school children.
To launch the fantastic book promotion, the Telegraph joined forces with the Grimsby Institute of Further and Higher Education and Lincolnshire Regional College.
The final tale, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain, tells the story of a young boy, Huck Finn who lived in America during the 19th century.
In search of freedom from his drunken and nasty father, Huck teams up with travelling companion, Jim, a runaway slave, leading readers on a highly amusing journey along the Mississippi River in their makeshift raft.
Huck is not your typical hero. He lies, steals and uses bad language, but there is something endearing about him that makes readers – both children and adults alike – stick with him to the very end.
