Firefighters at the scene of a fire in an derelict building on Grimsby Docks.
As reported on www.thisisgrimsby.co.uk, the fire is believed to have started in old containers next to the dilapidated building – the old Quayside Distribution site in Kemp Road – and spread inside.
Staff from nearby firms rushed to move their own lorries and containers to avoid being affected.
Fire crews were called at about 6.30pm, and the fire was under control by 7pm.
Ian Chase, of nearby Cornwall Transport, said: "We had to rush to get our own trucks out of the way so they did not go up as well.
"The trouble is, people walking along the North Wall have access to these properties.
"The response from the emergency services was good. It could have spread all the way along."
Watch manager Stuart Axcell said: "The cause of the fire is unknown and an investigation has been launched.
"Due to the rapid intervention by the crews, they have prevented a far greater fire, which could have involved the three neighbouring properties."
He said two appliances from Peaks Lane were in attendance, and firefighters used three hose jets and wore breathing apparatus.
Quayside Distribution is now headquartered in Wharncliffe Road.
In May 2008, Accolade Food Manufacturers' neighbouring building was destroyed in a blaze that six fire crews fought for four hours.
