Firefighters tackling smouldering coal on-board Immingham ship (update)

COAL which had been smouldering on board a ship for more than 12 hours was expected to be off-loaded last night.

The vessel, which was tied up at Immingham Docks, was monitored closely by Humberside Fire and Rescue officers since Thursday.

As reported on www.thisisgrimsby.co.uk, firefighters were called to the scene at about 5.15pm and have been monitoring the ship ever since.

Yesterday, crews were using jet hoses to cool it.

    “This will make the Grimsby Troll apoplectic, stories about COAL AT IMMINGHAM and WINDMILLS on the same day in the GT. How on earth will he survive the day? I do hope that someone near him is trained to put him in the Troll Recovery Position.

    Oooooooooo the dust on the windowsills and the thought of those tall revolving structures. Just imagine coal dust being scattered by those huge revolving sails on the windmills. This overload could seriously damage Googy Baby's health ;-D”
