Spitfire and Hurricance flypast will be weekend highlight

SECOND World War aircraft will soar above a 1940s weekend in Lincolnshire next month.

A Spitfire and Hurricane will perform a flypast at the Lincolnshire Wolds Railway's nostalgia-filled event on Saturday, September 8, and Sunday, September 9.

FLASHBACK: Ludborough station is taken over by the military during a previous 1940s event at the Lincolnshire Wolds Railway.

The appearance by the two famous Battle of Britain Memorial Flight fighters will take place at 2.10pm on the Saturday.

Organiser Gordon Newton said: "Our 1940s weekend gets bigger every year and it promises to be a great day out for all the family.

Attractions will be based at both Ludborough Station and North Thoresby, with trains running between the two.

Both locations will have different 1940s themes, with military and civilian re-enactors intermingling with visitors.

The 1940s theme in North Thoresby is linked to the village social life of the era, with an emphasis on farming, 1940s food, military and civilian re-enactment, exhibitions, trade stalls and much more.

A vintage bus will operate a shuttle service between North Thoresby station and the village centre, adding to the real feel of the 1940s.

Throughout the weekend, the Steaming Kettle Buffet at Ludborough Station will be providing a range of superb 1940s-style food and drink.

Car parking is available at Ludborough Station and entry to the static displays and exhibitions is free.
