Fond memories of cycle dealer whose mum had a new car
RECENT mention of Albert Dixon's shop in Grimsby Road, Cleethorpes, promoted Mike West, of Holton-le-Clay, to get in touch and send us this photograph.
Mike told us: "This is a picture of how the shop looks now. It was taken the same day the item was published in Bygones.
"I grew up with Albert and knew his mother and father. I remember his mother buying a brand new car, a blue Ford Popular, which cost about £500 in those days. She was the only person I knew with a new car.
"Albert helped in the shop as a young boy and often pumped my bike tyres up for me for a small charge, two old pence

"I knew Albert for most of my life and later got to know his wife, Joan, and their daughter, Jane, when she was very young.
"I think it is fair to say he was a well-known and respected cycle dealer and it's sad to see the shop as it is today."
