Franklin College delays decision on whether to appeal Ofsted inspection
FRANKLIN College is delaying its decision on whether to appeal a pilot Ofsted inspection until its board of governors is consulted.
As reported, in an inspection for which Ofsted were piloting new judging guidelines, Franklin’s overall effectiveness was deemed “inadequate”, despite having topped North East Lincolnshire league tables for the past five years.
The college is considering appealing the report, although will consult the board of governors before making a final decision.
Principal Trevor Wray said: “We are still strongly considering launching an appeal, but it is a big decision. I think it is important to wait until the governors are informed and have input.”

“How can Franklin be top of a league table for N E Lincs - it has a monopoly of A level provision locally (Toll Bar only recently started A levels again; and the College was small in this area even prior to the decision to withdraw from A Levels). Top of a league of one!!
The judgement is against national benchmarks not local - and must be a major worry for local young people who lack real alternatives - travel across the border to Lincolnshire, but here school based Sixth Forms are too small to cope with demand if students rightly seek a better quality provision.
I am surprised the local press has not made this a bigger story as together with the withdrawal of provision at the college this has a major impact on local young people - the paper needs to investigate further.”
