The Government is vandalising Britain, says Grimsby MP Austin Mitchell in his Week In Westminster column in today's Grimsby Telegraph.

It's all done under the pretext of paying off debt, but it’s increasing it because of falling revenues and the rising costs of misery.

Eric Pickles is vandalising local government by cutting its funding by 26 per cent.

Grimsby loses £155 per head while well-healed areas of the South, like Richmond, lose £16 per head.

Other councils are closing libraries (12 in Newcastle), swimming pools, leisure facilities, reducing rubbish collections and cutting back on social care.

So compared to most, North East Lincolnshire has done a good job of defending services and holding council tax down.

Yet it’s still been forced to cut staff and reduce council tax relief, which will hit the poor.

“Iceland had the right idea. Bring the bankers to heel, jail them. Never mind the politicans they can be dealt with later. I propose the French way, guillotine. That or hung drawn and quartered”

“If you can't read and you can't add up, what are you? Although, to be fair, judging by your politics you probably have got learning difficulties.”

“You lose an argument so you try making it personal by calling me an idiot. Typical narrow minded socialist, when's your signing-on time?”

“Oh and if you want mathematics Malcolm:

    £1,111.4Bn - £811.3Bn = £300.1Bn, not £364Bn.

You are an idiot. £300bn PLUS 64bn. Reading isn't a strong point either. What school did you go to?”

“BaWSox - 'What's your plan Mr Mitchell? Borrow even more?'

Is that not what you said? When this government has borrowed nearly 40% more money than the previous government?

This government also said they would cancel the deficit by 2015. Now they say 2018. So that means even more borrowing.

If we take November 2012 as an example. Public sector current budget deficit was £15.8bn in November 2012; this is a £1bn higher deficit than in November 2011, when there was a deficit of £14.8bn

So not only is borrowing increasing massively, the deficit isn't exactly shrinking. To pay for the EXTRA £64bn the government is more than likely going to have to increase taxes. I wonder if it will be the rich who will pay those?”

While the country is in DEFICIT we'll always have to borrow more. It's not rocket science.”

“Malcolm there's no point splitting hairs over figures.

ConDems said they'd decrease the DEFICIT. They're doing that. It's decreased by around 25% since they came to power, yes the debt is still going up because that's what a DEFICIT does! You can't blame Cameron for the huge DEFICIT that Gordon Brown created with Labour's overly-socialist policies.

Labour have stated they would INCREASE the DEFICIT by borrowing more. That's what Greece did and they went bankrupt.”

“Michell wake up man, you were elected in 1977 just as your party were ruining the country being run ragged by Scargill and Red Robbo.
You have then winged while the country recovered in the 80's and early 90's only to see your lot return to government and ruin all the good work.
Take a long hard look at what you have achieved in 36 years, grab a stamp and write it on the back.”
