Great Coates champions of massive indoor event

MORE than 200 schoolchildren from across North East Lincolnshire competed in the Sports Hall Athletics Championship Finals.

The finale of the indoor competition was the culmination of several weeks of action, during which more than 600 pupils aged 9-11 took part in running, jumping and throwing events.

Franklin College hosted the final showdown which featured eight primary schools.

Great Coates were crowned the overall winners, finishing just ahead of Healing and Eastfield.

Members of the winning team received a gold medal and a first place certificate.

They will also progress to the Humber Finals to represent North East Lincolnshire against the respective winners of East Riding, Hull and North Lincolnshire next March.

Indoor Sports Hall athletics is designed as a good way to introduce young people to the sport.

The competition was organised by Tristan Creighton of the North East Lincolnshire School Sports Partnership.
