GRIMSBY Town striker Anthony Elding has been handed a two-match ban after being found guilty of improper conduct by the Football Association.

The frontman was charged with a breach of FA Rule E3 for behaviour amounting to improper conduct following alleged gestures to the visiting Lincoln fans during Town's 3-1 home triumph over the Imps on New Year's Day.

Elding denied the claims at the time and submitted his defence to the FA but has failed in his bid to avoid the misconduct charge.

The ex-Leeds forward has been fined £600 and will sit out Town's next two home matches against York in the FA Trophy, and Braintree.

The Grimsby Telegraph understands Elding is, however, considering an appeal.

“The FA have no idea, totally clueless. They move from one blunder to another, appointing useless referees and defending their poor and inadequate displays and handing out bans and fines that are not necessary. A power trip driven organisation with people who know little about football. I wouldn't appeal, probably end up with a 5 game ban for having the audacity to question the mighty power of the FA.”

“This is a very harsh punishment. Football is going mad. Oh dear lincoln are bitter that we are a better side then them arnt they. Well du*** has been in form and to be fair deseves a few starts so lets not let it rock our play off push and cup run.... bet Lincoln wished they could say that!”

“He didn't swear though did he........If he had done what he did in Peoples park with the kids about, he would probably be signing the register now and folks would be daubing unpleasant remarks on the side of his house. Anthony's best bet is to accept the light punishment he has got, keep his manhood in his shortsd in future when palying footy, and thank his lucky stars it was the football authorities investigating.”

“I can recall Simon Yeo giving ****** signs to the pontoon a few years back when he came here with Lincoln. Nothing was said though, because it's not a big deal is it. So what if he did though? No point crying to the police because someone swore at you! Duffy's better than Elding anyway. UTM”

“Well at least Duffy gets a start now, Elding has been awful for the last 6 games......decent player works hard and gets the odd goal, but it's not the end of the world given his current form and Duffys! Oh and why are we surprised Lincoln complained, small minded village tinpot clubs, have the same petty, thick fans to match. Typical F.A, typical Lincoln, UTFM”

“Another thing i would like to add and that is i think the F.A have got it in for us mighty mariners even though its just plain pettyness that elding was charged and punished for such a minor breach.

“after watching york city play gateshead i think eldings 2 match ban will not effect towns match against york city on saturday, it just means we need to work harder and score goals.

reed is one to watch for for city as they scored 1 against gateshead, but gateshead beat york by 2 goals to 1. so heads up this maybe a doddle for town without elding.

    UTM

    keep the faith lads”
