GRIMSBY Town have revealed their new shirt for the coming season – and hope that a return to a more traditional style will herald a return of the club's former glories.

The shirt, which is the fifth to be manufactured by Italian sportswear giants Errea, unsurprisingly comes in the famous black and white but, this time, boasts a new-look collar as well as striking red trim.

Last season's top scorer and player of the year Liam Hearn was impressed with the new-look shirt.

He said: "I think the new kit is really smart and I'm impressed.

"I like the new design and the fact that they have kept it simple and haven't gone for anything too extravagant.

"The collar feels good and really makes it look a lot more traditional and I think the fans will appreciate that.

"When I go around Grimsby and Cleethorpes, I see a lot of fans wearing the replica shirts and I think this one is going to be really popular with them.

"The lads that have seen the new shirt have been really impressed with it and we just can't wait to play in it next season."

Dave Smith, commercial manager at Blundell Park, said he felt the style of the shirt echoes that of the kits worn during seasons such as the 1998 promotion-winning campaign, and hopes that the new offering will bring about similar success this time round.

He said: "It is always interesting to try and come up with a new design that it as fresh and different as possible while sticking to the traditional black and white stripes.

"I think it is a return to the style of the traditional shirts that we wore when I was playing a number of years ago. We're really pleased with it.

"Working with Errea – who have been fantastic – we've tried to produce a shirt that supporters will take to, give us a bit of luck on the pitch and hopefully help us to promotion."

Fabrizio Taddei, Sales Director for Errea, added: "We are delighted to be launching a new range of Grimsby Town kit and clothing.

"It is always a challenge to combine the traditional home shirt of a historic club with a fresh new look and we are sure that Mariners fans will be pleased with what we've produced."

“A very nice shirt indeed. Every little helps.

But what about the reserve kits? They have been a bit dodgy for quite a while.”

“They will be asking us to wear flat caps hobnail boots and take wooden rattles next to replicate another great era of GTFC if the retro shirts fail to get us promoted.”
