Grimsby-based Scrubby's Crisps launch new flavour and get brand into Harrods
GRIMSBY'S vegetable crisp sensation Scrubbys has launched a second flavour, as it celebrates getting the brand into Britain's most prestigious department store – Harrods.
The husband and wife team behind the gluten free lower fat alternative, have brought parsnip, chilli and lime to the crisp connoisseur, ten months after the first flavour was launched.
And with award nominations and celebrity endorsements in the bag, they are thrilled with the progress their hard work has brought in less than a year.
John and Claire Brumby, who work from an office in Europarc's Innovation Centre, outsource their strict manufacturing requirements at the minute, but remain committed to bringing that in-house, and to Grimsby, in the future.

Of the new flavour, Mr Brumby said: "We started working on it last summer and we were hoping it would be out for October/November time, but because we took the decision to keep everything gluten free it took a little while to get ready.
"We now think we are the first to bring out a true flavoured vegetable crisp that is gluten free. It is a big market so that is a big thing for us now. We talked through a few different ideas and then took to the kitchen and cut a few parsnips up. Chilli is quite in vogue at the moment, though mostly it is sweet chilli. We have gone with the traditional chilli and lime, which gives it a real citrus lift, which we feel works very well."
As reported, next month could see Scrubbys win a prestigious award in the food intolerance sector, having been shortlisted in the FreeFrom Awards 2013.
There are well over 100 stockists being regularly supplied now, with thousands of bags sold since May's initial launch. Back then, Mrs Brumby told the Telegraph how Harrods would be the ideal stockist.
"We have achieved what we really wanted to," she beamed. We are already working on flavour number three, and hoping that should be out for autumn, but it is all work in progress and we are keeping that under wraps for now."
The hallowed Knightsbridge placement comes just weeks after securing a listing with Partridges, another high end outlet in Sloane Square.
"We have certainly exceeded expectations," she added. "We have achieved in ten months what we thought would take two years plus."
