Grimsby boxer Kevin Hooper 'doing it for the town'
GRIMSBY boxer Kevin Hooper believes winning his next fight would pave the way for a shot at a national title.
The 28-year-old, who is unbeaten in 13 professional fights, takes on Yorkshire’s Gary Sykes at the Beachcomber on Friday night.
More than 450 tickets have already been sold for the event.
And those present could be part of an historic night – victory for Hooper could see him go on to fight for a title in the near future.

Sykes will not be an easy proposition – the Dewsbury fighter was on the brink of a world title challenge last year.
Ahead of tomorrow’s weigh-in, manager Sean Wood said: “Over the past two or three years, Kev has been lucky to have had an awesome following.
“He wants to deliver a title for the town. We want the English title and fighting a big name like Gary will help – we feel we owe it to the fans.
“From a coaching perspective, Kev is a delight to work with. He is very humble and modest – I think that is why he’s got such a strong following.
“Kev is not just doing this for himself, he is doing for the town. It will be good for people that have never been able to get down and support him. Kev is a big draw. He is fearless and people will enjoy the show – it is not going to be an easy night, but there will be a good atmosphere.”
The Beachcomber doors will open at 7pm – with the first fight scheduled for 8pm and Hooper due to step into the ring around 9.30pm. To book your tickets for the event, contact Sean Wood on 07525 752497.
