Grimsby council tax dodger Carol Winfarrah (41) jailed owing £1,300
PERSISTENT council tax dodger Carol Winfarrah has been jailed for 20 days after failing to pay more than £1,300 she owed.
Winfarrah, 41, of Convamore Road, Grimsby, was locked up after racking up the debt between July 2006 and November 2007.
-

She was originally told to appear before Grimsby magistrates in June 2004, when she agreed to make payments off her debt.
But, after failing to make these payments and managing to evade North East Lincolnshire Council and court appearances for a number of years, she appeared in court in July 2010.

By then, her debt totalled £3,761.12 from 10 liability orders.
The magistrates wiped off £2,244.98, leaving £1,516.14 to pay.
She was once again ordered to make payments off her debt – and this was backed by a 30-day suspended sentence.
Winfarrah failed once again to keep to the arrangement and, after numerous attempts to get her back to court, she finally appeared there in November last year, when magistrates ordered her to pay £20 a fortnight.
On her latest appearance, the court heard that, since the original hearing in July 2010, Winfarrah had paid only £390, when she should have paid £1,150. The amount left was £1,301.13.
The magistrates decided that, given the number of chances she had been given and the fact she had made no attempt to keep to the order, they had no option but to jail her for 20 days.
After the hearing, Sharon Wroot, head of North East Lincolnshire Council’s operational finance, said: “We pursue those who won’t pay their council tax rigorously, as this case shows.
“However, we also work hard to help those who genuinely can’t pay their council tax and I would encourage anyone who is experiencing difficulties to contact us at the earliest opportunity and we will do all that we can to assist them.”

“I assume that nuke_dragga spends more time being 'clever' at other peoples expense simply because he thinks he is a superior being. He rarely has anything to say on the subject at hand, but vilifies others who comment.
Also, he spends much time 'commenting', all around the country, on other local paper stories. e.g.Bath, Leicester, Hull, and many more.
Does he really think his contributions are meaningful? I find them to be high on nuisance value list, and that's it on this subject from me.”

“I see he's got another new name for his login directory. It must be as long as the NEL telephone directory by now. He has also got his own Spamming Trunk Dialling when annoying nationally.”

“nukedragga,
Who are you?
I've notice an unhealthy obsession you have of countering every comment, critical of NELC with some juvenile post in their defence.
We should be allowed to know who you are, for no reason other than to ensure that you're not on NELC's payroll. If council tax payers learned they were paying for this they would be within their rights to demand a refund.”

“He's so obvious and he is obviously struggling to debate and so will do it to himself – bless.
Check user details and interests folks, it's a fun game, just like him.”

“When is this platform for debate and comments going to fall into that category?
I find much of the comments are plainly nefarious and really, not worth rating whatsoever.
Instead of passing off somewhat vitriolic comments about other peoples views, debate the issues!
This one, yes, jail is a necessity to give a short sharp shock, after all, it has been continuing now for some five years. ASBO? What makes anybody think she will adhere to that regimen of punishment?
I do share the view that a lot of minor felons should be hit in their pockets by deducting funds at source, be it earnings or benefits.
Non payment of council tax is a burden on all householders, not all local people though.
Chase your councillors and MPs in order to get laws changed. so that it is easier and far less costly to gain due receipts of debts and mete out punishment appropriately and fairly.”

."He of many many names is an incurable Fester. No wonder he's always at odds with his betters and the world – he doesn't belong and is ignored by everyone. It must be awful only writing to himself and praising himself during his own contrived 'debates'.
I thank him for the pleasure, entertainment and laughter he gifts me – priceless."
nukedargga, now I may not be "He of many names" (whoever your deluded little mind thinks that is) but I promise I could keep you entertained for hours, if not days. All I'd have to do is give you a sheet of paper with 'P.T.O.' written on both sides.”
