Group has a lot to smile about
ALLOTMENT holders are reaping the benefits of one woman's determination.
Keelby Allotment Society held its first open day to big success, due in part to the fundraising efforts of secretary Louise Drakes, who has secured more than £10,000 to pay for a variety of improvements.

open day success: Left, Laura Oswin, winner of the scarecrow competition. Laura sacrificed some of her clothes to produce this scarecrow. Right, who said it was a bad year for pumpkins? James Drakes with his prize-winning pumpkin.
New sheds were purchased, including one especially for children to encourage them to get involved, and a shipping container was installed to use for storage.
Louise said: "A lot of the allotment holders wouldn't be able to afford £300 for a new shed and we didn't want to have sheds built with old doors.

"The allotment is one of the first things you see on the way into Keelby and we wanted it to look nice.
"It took a month to apply for Lottery funding."
The cash was also used to buy Children's Environment Partnership badges for the Keelby Cubs and Beaver groups, who cleared ditches, picked up litter and sowed plants.
Louise continued: "The Beavers and Cubs have really helped.
"The new shed has really encouraged them to get more involved. They now have their own tools and their own plot."
The Woodlands Trust has also donated 60 trees to the site, which will be planted at a public event on Saturday, November 10, from 10am to 2pm.
