“nick4575 - you can add to that list Game, Tie Rack and Jessops. Even the 99p shop didn't last very long.”

“"Use it or lose it". The same applies to big shops, little shops even newspapers! One day in 2035 there will only be large concrete supermarkets. All the little shops will have gone.Newspapers and magazines will not exist. There will be very little choice. It will be Hobson's choice in other words, take it or leave it from an indifferent cashier. You won't be able to go to a D.I.Y. shop or electronics shop for advice as they will have disappeared.Cinemas will be long gone. The pleasure of walking along side streets perusing for bargains in little shops will be gone. There will be very few pubs left if any.Have you ever seen Russians of the Soviet era. They each had the same clothes, same pattern socks, same kind of material in their suits, same shirt etc.If you want to know who is responsible for this sad future look in the mirror! You are doing it to yourself! The computer is not freeing you it is imprisoning you into a soulless lonely existence.”

“grimrich - "and they still have a good old record shop with vinyl"

If you're looking for a record shop, there is one on Railway Street, just around the corner from the Yardbirds club (it used to be near the Tap & Spile, but moved).

There is also a good record shop in Louth called Off The Beaten Tracks.”

“It seems that Grimsby is forever going to be "one of those towns that doesn't matter", which is tragic considering all of the work that goes into trying to get ourselves known. I wonder how long it'll take before Freshney Place is nothing but a haven for £1 shops and cheap girls fashion outlets filled with the same tacky clothing as the rest. I'm all for supporting independent retailers, record shops and the like but think about it, they all died out because of places like HMV becoming the norm for people wanting every form of entertainment under one roof, and now that HMV is dying a slow, agonising death we're pretty much left with nothing. Well, except the stuffy, overstocked, rage inducing aisles of places like Tesco and Walmart... sorry, ASDA. I'm also going to have to face the fact that as much as I enjoy going out, interacting with people and browsing music and film, I'm going to have to get used to the fact that as long as I live in Grimsby I'm more often than not going to have to sit and vegetate, ordering everything over the Internet. Sad times”
