THE Humberston Lions are gearing up for another successful year of fundraising – and a big change to their famous summer event.

One of their first dates of the year will be the annual Motown night, on Saturday at the Beachcomber, in Humberston.

The Manhattans – known as the UK's finest soul and Motown show – will take to the stage, suited and booted, at 7.30pm.

Lions' president Clive Todd said: "Come along and enjoy a night of soul and dancing for only £7.50. We know North East Lincolnshire people love this type of music, so we are hoping for a good turnout.

"Last year was very successful with 450 people attending and £2,300 was raised thanks to everyone.

"We gave £600 to St Andrew's Children's Hospice, £500 to Brittle Bones Appeal, £350 to Grimsby Lung Cancer Support Group and we gave to many more local charities last year."

And there are big changes ahead for the Humberston Lions' summer fundraising.

Mr Todd said: "We are not going to have It's A Knockout this year – even though it has always been a success – we want to try something different.

"Instead, we will be hosting an exciting zumba day in Cleethorpes for all the family in the summer – zumba is so popular we thought it would be a good choice."

Member Dave Cullen said: "The Motown night is bound to be a great night with a chance for everyone to get dressed up.

"We raise money for local charities and there will be some great tunes on for everyone of all ages to enjoy.

"This has taken a lot of organising to do and we all work as a team to give this opportunity to the public.

"We would like to thank the support we have received over the years from the local people and the Grimsby Telegraph."

Tickets, priced £7.50, are available from Dave, on 0791 2540222 or Martin, on 0845 8331828 or by texting 0787 9493441.
