He is best known for presenting BBC 1's The One Show, as well as The Apprentice: You're Fired and Match Of The Day 2.
A national newspaper claims Helen is being "secretly tested" for a new presenting role with Mr Chiles at GMTV, in an attempt to revamp the show's fortunes.
The paper quotes an ITV insider as saying: "ITV boss Peter Fincham and daytime chief Alison Sharman are very keen on her. She could be the perfect foil for Adrian and has the journalistic background that would readily help her deal with politicians and celebrities alike."
GMTV presenter Ben Shephard announced on Wednesday that he would be leaving the programme.
Helen, a former Hereford Comprehensive School pupil and the daughter of ex-Grimsby Telegraph assistant editor John Morton, worked as showbusiness reporter and USA correspondent previously at GMTV.
She began her career, then Helen Morton, as a trainee reporter at the now-defunct weekly paper the Louth Standard in the 1980s.

“Helen will be ideal in the role. I know the family as my sister is married to Helens brother. About time something good happened for Grimsby. Be nice if she used a GTFC mug to drink her coffee out of on the show. Good Luck Helen.”
