Historic moment for heritage group
"IT proves we are dedicated to the community and sincere in what we do."
The words of the Friends of Cleethorpes Heritage who have secured charitable status – enabling them to continue teaching locals all about the resort's vibrant history.
It will also allow them to raise money more successfully as they are now able to hold more than £5,000 in their bank account.
Their achievement – which was the result of proving their intentions to the Charitable Commission – comes just a month after they scooped a £9,000 lottery grant from the Awards For All Big Lottery Fund which they will spend on four major events – including a workshop led by BBC's Who Do You Think You Are? genealogical consultant, Nick Barratt.

Chairwoman Ann Reavey can't wait to get stuck in.
She said: "It was a very difficult process but the fact we have achieved charitable status proves we are sincere and dedicated to our community, which we hope to continue to engage with in all our upcoming projects.
"The process of learning about our local history is fantastic but we try to make it fun for everyone too. Our events will include music, dance, tea and cakes with lots of information and displays to read and see.
"We are hoping that because we now have this status it will show people how serious we are and people will support us in our fundraising which will help us continue our work throughout the year."
The grant has allowed them to plan five events which will run this year and next from November to September.
The first will be the Roaring 20s at Cleethorpes Memorial Hall on Sunday, November 18 where they will host Putting On The Ritz, an insight into what Cleethorpes was doing during the era as well as what was happening elsewhere in the country.
Ann continued: "Knowing our history gives people great pride in the town. It shows people where they have come from and, in many ways, where we are going.
"All our members thoroughly enjoy what we do. We work very hard, we are very busy but we learn as we go along and meet so many lovely people.
"We have had a fantastic year with three very successful events. We have more and more people coming to each event which shows people are really enthusiastic and interested in what we are doing. We are very proud of what we have done and we are looking forward to the future."
