Hitting the bullseye with Archers' taster day

GRIMSBY Archers really hit the mark with their taster day on August Bank Holiday Monday.

The Big Archery Weekend saw more than 100 people try the Olympic sport.

It proved to be a huge success, with people aged from 10 to over 70 getting involved at Carr Lane Social Club.

Club secretary and coach Chris Petchey said "We were completely taken by surprise by the response.

"The number of people wanting to do our archery for beginners courses has totally outstripped what we had planned for. We are working hard to plan more courses as quickly as possible to cope with the demand.

"The Big Archery Weekend was a nationwide event organised by Archery GB to celebrate their 150th birthday.

"We've had people from as far north as Scarborough taking part, and everyone had a great day."

Amongst those trying archery was Anne Hudson, who said: "We attended the taster day and thoroughly enjoyed our half hour session.

"Many thanks to the lady who so patiently taught us – and all those who showed us their bows and spent time explaining them and demonstrating them to two complete novices."
