Hundreds unite for Christmas carols sing-song
HUNDREDS joined together in St James’ Square last night to sing Carols by Candlelight.
People of all ages braved the freezing cold to take part in the fourth annual event, singing a selection of their favourite carols.

All aglow is five-year-old Dominic Woodhouse from Grimsby.
The 40-minute-long concert, was led by St James’ choristers and the Salvation Army band – and organised by Grimsby’s Town Centre Forum.
Grimsby Town Centre Manager Dave Ranshaw, said: “This event is all about bringing carols outside the church and into St James’ Square.
“It’s about bringing people together to have a sing-song and a bit of fun.”
Many took along song sheets printed in Monday’s Grimsby Telegraph, and, to help the crowds get into the swing of things, Freshney Place were on hand to give out free mince pies.
The Kubler family, parents Andy and Nicola with children Aaron, Dylan and Ben, enjoying the event.
Among those enjoying the evening were Andy and Nicola Kubler, of Great Coates and their three children Aaron (16), Ben (15) and Dylan (10).
Andy (44), said: “We come every year. It’s something that was around when I was younger, but then disappeared.
“It’s a really great tradition and something that we should encourage.”
Canon Michael Hunter, who led the service, said: “It was a really special evening. I was astonished at the number of people who supported the event in-spite of the freezing cold.
“I think it speaks volumes of the strong community spirit that exists in the town.”
