SIBERIAN snows descended on Lincolnshire causing disruption to many householders.

But the easterly icy blast gave many families a fun day out as parks throughout North East Lincolnshire and the Louth area became a mecca for sledgers and snowboarders.

However, on the downside, a stretch of Beacon Avenue, Cleethorpes, was cordoned off after a water mains burst due to the freezing conditions, and a number of homes in the Scartho area were struck by power cuts overnight on Saturday.

North East Lincolnshire Council staff were out from early yesterday clearing footpaths, Grimsby Crematorium and Cleethorpes Cemetery and car parks in the borough.

A spokesman said: "Our guys will be out for most of the day making sure the pathways are cleared."

Most of the main roads in the borough and in Lincolnshire were cleared of snow after gritters and snowploughs were operating overnight from Saturday into Sunday.

Inspector Stuart Middlecoate, of Humberside Police, said: "Driving conditions have been difficult and extra care is required if people have to go on journeys. We have had a few minor accidents reported but nothing serious. The untreated roads remain hazardous so we are asking people to make a journey only if it is necessary."
