SHOCKED boyfriend John Gaskin was devastated when he discovered his lover had been cheating on him, Grimsby magistrates heard.

His world fell apart when he came home to find a note saying that she had left him for another man.

He was so upset that he vandalised a car after a heavy drinking session, the court was told.

Gaskin, 24, of Willingham Street, Grimsby, admitted damaging a wing mirror, belonging to Michael Dent, on December 21.

Sue Barker, prosecuting, said two men were spotted pushing, and jumping on, a parked car.

A noise was heard and the car’s wing mirror was found snapped off.

Sarah Middleton, mitigating, said Gaskin had moved to Grimsby from Coventry with his girlfriend, supposedly to start a new life, but he returned home one day to find she had left him a note saying that she had been having an affair and was leaving him.

Gaskin was very upset and started drinking heavily.

He committed the offence while “ten out of ten” on a scale of drunkenness and claimed he could not remember it.

Gaskin, a factory worker, was given a one-year conditional discharge and was ordered to pay £200 in fines and court costs.
