JOAN Askam was the winner of the inaugural Senior Ladies Championship at Grimsby Golf Club.

The first match was sponsored by the current women's captain Marion Mackenzie.

Some 18 players went out in a medal competition and Askam made sure her name was first on the trophy with a fabulous round of 68 net to reduce her handicap.

The runner-up was Carol Page on 73 net ahead of Helen Lazonby, also 73.

Non-senior women played in a Stableford competition when the worthy winner with another great round was Anne Brierley on 44 poijnts, with Hilda Webb the runner up on 42 and Pauline Smith on 40.

All three has their handicaps reduced.

In Saturday's paper, the Grimsby club captain, John Tinker, was shown in pictures presenting Grimsby club champion Tim Seaton and the net winner Tim Kirkham with their trophies and not as given. We apologise for any embarrassment.
