Jobs on the horizon amid energy revolution
A JOBS bonanza is blowing this way!
Hundreds of trades and professions are going to be required on our doorstep in the next 20 years as the North Sea undergoes an energy revolution – transforming the home of oil and gas to a windfarm wonderland.

An illustration of the proposed Humber Gateway windfarm, viewed towards Spurn and, on the horizon, the coast with Cleethorpes on the left, going towards Grimsby Docks, left of centre, and up the Humber.
The true extent of the potential has been unveiled as proposals for the closest development to our shores – Humber Gateway – were examined by local employers keen to be part of the multi-billion pound industry.
Energy giant E.on – the company behind the £700-million, 300MW farm off Spurn Point – told of the huge requirements, not just for its project that could see between 42 and 83 turbines erected by 2014, generating enough electricity to supply 195,000 homes, but those planned further out to sea – all within strategic reach of the Humber ports.
And a series of events have been lined up in the coming weeks to ensure companies switch on to the potential, as the Government goes green to secure electricity supplies for future generations.
Read more about the Humber Gateway project in today's Grimsby Telegraph and Business, which is included with your paper today.

“Wind energy is only able to replace traditional power stations to a limited extent.
Their dependence on the prevailing wind conditions means that wind power has a limited load factor even when technically available. It is not possible to guarantee its use for the continual cover of electricity consumption. Consequently, traditional power stations with capacities equal to 90% of the installed wind power capacity must be permanently online in order to guarantee power supply at all times.
The above quote is verbatim from E-on !”

“Nigel, Netherlands. You have an idea but how would you make it materialize? It's no good spouting off from what you imagine in your crystal ball and condemning those who have made comment here. You're so full of wind and hot air that some Dutch engineer (according to your beliefs) might come along and plug into you. Don't take such childish pleasure unjustifiably underestimating and condemning the qualities of our local people. Meet Eon's needs for God's sake, what an insult. Don't you know the history of this country?”

“hear, here nigel (or is that here, here or hear, hear?). anyway - it's about time people stopped bloody moaning and got on with changing things they can change and just accepting what they can't. everyone's so down on this town on everything - the businesses trying to grow, the 'chavs', the council, the pubs - you name it, they've got a negative comment. of course it's not easy, but we're not the only town in trouble and there's plenty to celebrate about grimsby. probably.”

“I have an idea!
I agree that in all likelihood GY will not profit from any new turbines.
Unless you stop whining around on here! We need to set Grimsby up to get as much cash out of this as possible. We need to attract the suitable skills and businesses to the area to exploit the opportunity. We need to provide education so that the local labour supply can meet E.on's needs. Otherwise all this opportunity will pass you by and you'll be right where you are now - sitting around moaning.
NELINCS needs to see the opportunity to make some cash and take it! End of.”

“Gizza job is right .There will be very little end gain for GY unless you are thinking of letting a ferry operator dock there. The contractors used will be from around the world and if you are lucky a few token local workers . We as a nation are in deep trouble and soon we will be much like Greece/Spain and the other non producing countries of the eu that is relying on Germany/ France to bail us out. What would our forefathers if they could see the way we are heading as a nation Men of Steel ,the Land and Sea ARE NOW BEING THROWN ONTO THE DOLE SO AS THE EU CAN DO ITS BIDDING.”
