Join our campaign to cut carbon emissions by 10 per cent this year
TURNING your home into an energy efficient haven may cost a few quid – however, the price of not conserving household heat is often even more eye-watering.
As reported, the Grimsby Telegraph is backing the 10:10 campaign – a national drive to cut the carbon emissions of homes and businesses across the UK by 10 per cent this year – and save money in the process.
-

Reporter Callum Brodie is shocked by the size of the gas bill for a typical terraced home in Grimsby.
A recent survey from the Energy Saving Trust has revealed that those living in older terraced houses – which make up almost a quarter of all homes in the region – are likely to pay a third more for their gas and electricity than someone living in a new build home.
To find out more, see today's Grimsby Telegraph.
For more information on how to lower costs while also cutting carbon emissions visit the 10:10 workshop at the Renaissance Shop in Victoria Street – open Monday to Friday next week.

“I do wish some of you correspondent would read what others write before being critical. For instance I said that Gas was cheaper than electricity when it comes to heating water. But the fact is that gas orelectricity are cheaper than sunlight, when you consider the capitol cost of installing solar collectors , & the huge payback time. Also the lack of sunlight in places like Grimsby.
As for Thorium it is a much more common element than Uranium. It is also capable of producing a lot more energy per unit mass.”

“Neil, Surely what you mean to say is just *years* away, unless you are suggesting that the source of Thorium reactors can be found many millions of miles out into the cosmos - a light year is just the distance light travels.... in a year! (sorry I had to post that fists as I am now going to....and I can hardly bring myself to do it... agree with you and counter Jim!
Jim, said "wouldn't natural gas be cheaper" - what as source of energy over the sun - Jim really?!?!
OK so lets say that you were lucky enough to live over an untapped gas pocket and could afford the rights to extract it and then have enough land to build a drilling rig, sink a well, extract and process it....in fact I'll just stop there actually, nuff said.”

“Some times it takes more than one try to post a comment . Here we go again:
Neil you live in never never land. A change in the average persons life style will do nothing for the environment(that's if it needed changing) The energy users are not the average Joe, but Industry Transportation. & Utilities. Back off on them & your life style goes to hell. I agree that small reactors are a few years away, but they are being developed. It's years not light years. Meanwhile carry on as we are we are not doing a damn thing to cause Global warming.”

“I live in the real world,Jim. Thorium reactors are light years away from occurring. We therefore have to use current technology more efficiently, which we patently do not do. Only small changes in lifestyle create huge savings to our environment.”

“Neil I am not trying to say it. I am saying it. All of the technology we presently have will not make an iota of difference. While I am at it I will say that wind power is a completely expensive bust, The future for power generation is in small Thorium Reactors. There will be little or no waste to dispose of.”
