I READ with interest about Huntingdon Life Sciences in The Big Issue.

In my opinion these people do cruel and unnecessary animal experiments.

I cannot understand why the courts jail people for daring to speak out against animal cruelty, but they don't jail all dangerous drivers.

Why exactly is this?

Where are the organisations who protect animals?

Why can't they stop this cruelty?

Why do courts want to silence those who speak out?

In my opinion the system is very wrong.

“When I was eleven Leanne,I could barely offer anyone a coherent sentence, never mind a letter.Well done. You will find people disagree with you,or if you prefer, have different views. The two answers you have received are not helpful to yourself,in as much as they are trying to explain "things" which may be beyond your grasp.May i offer my apologies, should I be wrong. You are at the age of eleven producing profound, thought provoking ideas.Congratulations.”

“We've seen major advances in the ways we treat illnesses recently. Life expectancy is rising for people with cancer, or cystic fibrosis. We have new ways of treating disabilities like muscular dystrophy or spinal injuries.

What's behind these advances? It's research on animals. While doing experiments on test tubes and computers can help us understand how a drug behaves, only animal research can really help us know how medicine affects things like the circulation, or the nervous system, or the way the body digests food.

We don't want to treat people with health problems and disabilities worse than able bodied people. But that's what would happen if we stopped medical research.”

“Leanne, they weren't jailed for "speaking out" against animal cruelty, they were jailed for sending filthy objects through the post, throwing bricks through windows, smashing cars, telling obscene lies about scientists. In short, they were jailed for trying to silence people who they disagreed with. Real animal lovers volunteer to work long hours in animal sanctuaries. I doubt that lot would know what an animal was if one bit them.”
